Our Faculty Member Assoc. Prof. Thseen Nazır Delivers Presentation at the TherapHeal Annual Global Mental Health Summit 2026

Assoc. Prof. Thseen Nazır, a faculty member in the Department of Guidance and Psychological Counseling, was an invited speaker at the TherapHeal Annual Global Mental Health Summit, held online on 11 October 2026.
This year’s summit, themed “The Human in the Loop: Enhancing Practice, Preserving Compassion”, brought together clinicians, researchers and trainees from around the world to examine the growing presence of artificial intelligence in mental health practice.
Recent Ethics Problems in Psychological Counseling
Dr. Nazır’s session, “Emerging Ethics in Counseling with AI”, addressed a difficulty facing the profession: ethical codes are usually written after a practice has settled, but AI has arrived before any professional consensus has formed.
The talk showed that existing frameworks already answer many AI-related concerns confidentiality, competence, informed consent, human oversight and record-keeping while identifying several problems they do not yet address, including unclear responsibility when an AI system contributes to an error, clients mistaking a chatbot for therapy, and emotional reliance on systems that are always available and never disagree.
The session was built around real dilemmas that participants responded to live and closed with a set of portable questions practitioners can apply to any AI tool, together with the principle of proportionality. We congratulate Assoc. Prof. Thseen Nazır on his valuable contribution and on successfully representing our department at the summit and wish him continued success in his work.
