Asst. Prof. Aydın Söylemez’s Article “From Spiritual Well-Being to Psychological Resilience” Has Been Published

The article “From Spiritual Well-Being to Psychological Resilience: The Mediating Roles of Self-Control and Dispositional Hope”, co-authored by Asst. Prof. Aydın Söylemez, a faculty member of our Department of Guidance and Psychological Counseling, and Asst. Prof. Soner Ercan has been published in the Mehmet Akif Ersoy University Journal of Education Faculty on October 26, 2026.
Today, negative experiences such as wars, infectious diseases and natural disasters are becoming increasingly common. Psychological resilience helps individuals cope with these challenges, which makes it more important than ever. With this in mind, the study offers a comprehensive examination of psychological resilience, spiritual well-being, hope and self-control, all of which are core concepts of positive psychology.
Self-Control and Hope Bridge Spirituality and Resilience
The findings revealed that students with higher levels of spiritual well-being also reported higher levels of self-control and hope. Self-control and hope, in turn, were found to be positively associated with students’ psychological resilience. These results indicate that self-control and hope play an important mediating role in the relationship between spiritual well-being and psychological resilience.
The study extends research on positive psychological concepts beyond the clinical context. It offers a holistic perspective on how individual strengths contribute to adaptive coping and personal growth. The findings also carry important implications for intervention programs that aim to support the mental health and well-being of university students.
We congratulate our faculty member on this achievement.
